Trader Vic's Mai Tai 1944

The original Mai Tai was invented in Oakland by Victor Bergeron (aka Trader Vic) in 1944. He created it one afternoon for some friends visiting from Tahiti. One friend tasted the drink and cried out: "Maita'i roa ae!" (meaning "Out of this world!")—hence the name.
